I've become hooked on the new My Little Ponies Friendship is Magic series. I'm perfectly happy being a "Bronie"...I guess alot of guys like this show but all fans are called "Bronies". One friend of mine says they don't look like ponies but I don't care...real ponies don't have pastel colors, wings, horns, or cutie marks. But oh well. I used to have quite a few uni's growing up, including a blanket which features a light unicorn on one side & a dark one on the other! Hooray for old school Equestria! I love you unicorns, and I still want you around even if I am Molly Grue at this point. LOL

Classic Lolita

Softer colors, more subtle in detail & print. Classic Lolita reminds me of dresses my grandma used to buy me for Sunday when I was little. There was a dress boutique called The Sugar Plum Shop...real old school with a bee hived sales woman who had a tape measure. That part I wasn't crazy about. LOL What I was crazy about were the dresses. They rustled when you moved and the skirts would bell out when you twirled. The sashes had satin bows you could rub between your fingers or crinkly organza ones that would proudly puff out like fairy wings behind you. Velvets to sink into and comforting quilted bodices with embroidered flowers or bright beads winking up at you. The fabric really had a life of its own. My favorite dress was a navy blue one that had soft purple roses on it. My grandma asked me if I'd prefer a pastel pink or blue instead but I already had dresses like that. And this one was special, a little more mysterious and different. It also had the twirliest skirt you ever saw. That's what sold my grandma on the dress. I have no idea what happened to it but I remember it very fondly.

Dolly Kei Style

It is almost like the Mori Girl if she traveled in a gypsy caravan...lots of folkloric eastern european influence. Richer colors, vlevets, brocades, golds over silvers. I would love to visit the Grimoire shop in Japan that features this look but I'm prefectly happy trolling thrift stores of finds and peicing this look together. This look can also be vaguely creepy in a good way too...sometimes spooky dollies become accessories or dark jewelry can be added.

Mori "Forest Girl" style

Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter's world completely nails the Mori fashion in my opinion. Soft earthy colors, loose shapes, and she has a gentleness about her that complements the gentle feeling of this look. Plus I love her and Neville! LOL

Style Icons for this: Holly Hobbie (Remember the girl in the bonnet from the 70's?) and Little Red Riding Hood. This style leaves behind the dressy tendancies of Lolita and is more a narrative about a girl in the woods. No bell shapes really, lots of a-lines and baggy shapes but still soft and natural. This girl hikes in the woods, bakes breads over cakes, takes pictures and rides her bike. She is not a pretty princess but maybe one in the guise of a lovely peasant girl. I love this look because it's romantic without being fussy. It doesn't seem to hinge on looking young either, which in the last few years has become rather important to me. LOL

Some examples of Country Lolita

If the style icons of sweet Lolita are Alice in Wonderland & Marie Antoinette, the style icons of Country Lolita are probably Dorothy from Wizard of Oz and possibly Strawberry Shortcake. Same idea as Sweet but more outdoorsy picnic friendly.

I love looking at these but they are ALOT of work & effort. This style is not for people who like to be casual & roll out of bed. It seems to take a fair amount of money to support this look too. It is gorgeous but it is not for the faint of heart. I love this girl's matching pink jacket. I prefer the solid stuff. Prints seem really popular but I don't think I want to be drowning in unicorns and Care Bears. LOL I love the deer print skirt, though it might be more classic or country lolita. I'd probably wear it with a solid blouse or sweater.I know head eating bows and rocking horse shoes are big with this style but I'd prefer mary janes or granny boots & a nice smart hat or bonnet. Yeah, I would completely freak out in a good way if I saw anyone wearing this in person but I don't think I could do it myself. I just love the idea of a real girl who looks like rainbow bright or a princess to be friends with and hold hands and skip down the street together. I know, I'm a grown up, but there's always been this part of me that is eternally five and doesn't give a crap about what's cool or what's expected. I just like cute stuff. LOL
